RAMSBOTTOM CARBON RESIDUE

ASTM D524 - IP 14 - NFT 60117 - ISO 4262

This test method covers the determination of the amount of carbon residue left after evaporation and pyrolisis of an oil, and is intended to provide some indication of relative coke-forming propensity. The method is generally applicable to relatively non volatile petroleum products which partially decompose on distillation at atmospheric pressure. The principle consists on heating a sample at 550°C during 20 min. in a coking bulb and then weighing the residue.
