GPS Receivers
Function
GPS is used to establish the location of the vehicle using GPS satellites. The data can be
used to establish the road centreline or the position of roadside events.
With GPS receivers there is a price-performance tradeoff. We offer a range of
configurations and accuracy’s to suit your requirements and budget.
The Starfire system (www.navcomtech.com) provides real-time differential corrections
and accuracy of better than 10cm anywhere in the world. The output positions rate can
be up to 50Hz (depending on model).
The Trimble Pro-XRT, XT and XH receivers, all have sub meter post-processed DGPS
accuracy and some models allow real-time correction with OMNIStar.
Using our ROMDAS for Windows software with any of the above Trimble receivers, the
receiver settings are directly controlled from ROMDAS and the data can additionally be
stored as Trimble SSF files which can be differentially post processed using Trimble
Pathfinder Office (Pathfinder Office software is an additional purchase) or the Pathfinder
Express online service.
The GARMIN GPS 18 system will give accuracies in the 5-10 m range. It cannot be post-
processed. This is adequate for many applications.
All receivers supplied by us come complete with vehicle power supplies, magnetic
mounted antennae and other cables as needed to connect to the PC.
